Once your application has gone through and you’ve been given access to your own dashboard, you should follow the provided tutorial to figure out the site’s layout. You may be prompted to fill out some more basic information, but with that done, you can make your way to the ‘find a student’ tab to begin looking for a student that you feel you could most benefit. The cycle of students continues day by day, but if you cannot find a student that fits your expertise, feel free to reach out to the email provided above for assistance!
Unless the family has already sent homework to go over, your first session will probably be shorter and less formal than any others. A student’s guardian is encouraged to say hello as the tutor introduces themselves. The tutor can choose to utilize an informal icebreaker or can simply just begin tutoring. However, first sessions are usually just introductions and can last as little as ten to fifteen minutes.
After each session, once you close the tutoring platform tab (zoom, bigbluebutton, etc), you should be prompted to a, ‘Post Session Survey.’ These are short surveys that serve as a summary of your session, where you can list how long the session lasted for. Once completed, your hours will be logged through the collection of these post session surveys in the, ‘My Past Sessions’ tab. If you are not given a post session survey after you end your session, return to the, ‘My Past Sessions’ tab and you will see a past session that you can fill out a post session survey for. Your hours are automatically counted by the platform and should be displayed on the top of the, 'My Past Sessions' page.
